Terminologia del bridge

The Terminologia del bridge (‘Bridge Terminology’) that we present makes available to users about a hundred terms belonging to the world of bridge, including general concepts, names referring to the various players participating in a deal, terms related to the material used in this card game and names belonging to the bidding and play phases. This is the first edition of an unfinished work, which will grow in the future with new terminology. Its full thematic scope can be consulted in the document Concept diagram, which shows in bold the thematic fields that have been published in the first edition.

This work has been done thanks to the initiative of experts belonging to Catalan bridge associations, which detected the lack of terminology in this subject and addressed to TERMCAT to gather the most common terms in this singular game, significantly influenced by English and French languages. In fact, for some terms there wasn’t any established designation in Catalan, so the intervention of the Supervisory Council has been necessary to standardize about 30 terms.

Each term includes its designations in Catalan, equivalents in Spanish, French and English, definition and, if deemed necessary, additional notes.

Clicking on "Consulta de termes" (‘Term search’), terms can be looked up in three ways: using the alphabetical indexes (there is a different index for each language), using the thematic access or making simple or advanced searches in the upper space "Text de la consulta" (‘Text search’) in any of the dictionary languages.
