Terminologia de les malalties respiratòries

The work Terminologia de les malalties respiratòries (‘terminology of respiratory diseases’) comprises more than one hundred and twenty-five basic terms related to this subject. It is complemented with the Malalties respiratòries. Termes clau (‘Respiratory diseases. Key terms’) infographic, which aims to spread some of its most important terms.

The dictionary and the infographic have been developed in cooperation with the Societat Catalana del Diccionari Enciclopèdic de Medicina and the Societat Catalana de Pneumologia the and with the help of some independent experts giving advice to the TERMCAT on punctual occasions too. In addition to that, there has also been some cooperation with linguists from ésAdir (the language portal of the Catalan Audiovisual Media Corporation [CCMA]).

All these terminological resources are part of the support actions to the television programme La Marató de 3Cat and its partner Fundació La Marató de 3Cat initiative that, in the 2024 edition, aim to raise awareness of the impact of respiratory diseases on public health and society.

This dictionary is intended to be a practical tool of reference to all professionals that might need to use the basic terms of pneumology and respiratory health both in science communication and in the academic field. We encourage you to use it and spread it. Please do not hesitate to reach back to us for any potential improvement or updates that you may have.

Each terminological entry contains the preferred denomination in Catalan and the corresponding synonyms, if any, and equivalents in Spanish, French and English, with the corresponding definition and, eventually, informative notes. It also includes the thematic area each term belongs to. The complementary infographic is designed as a popularization material that contains some of the most representative terms in a graphic and interactive way, with links to the dictionary entries.

Clicking on "Consulta de termes" (‘Term search’), terms can be looked up in three ways: using the alphabetical indexes (there is a different index for each language), using the thematic access or making simple or advanced searches in the upper space "Text de la consulta" (‘Text search’) in any of the dictionary languages.
